This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Cam Skattebo, the No. 110 name on the board, stolen at Round 6, Pick 37.
Reaching for Dellinger left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Spending an early pick on linebacker with edge rusher, cornerback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get a lead back with juice. A real need, handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jalon Walker at the Round 2 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Circle this one: Xavier Watts at slot 68 is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jayden Higgins at pick 73 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Demetrius Knight Jr. adds a linebacker and leaves edge rusher, cornerback and other spots untouched.
Devin Neal in the 142nd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jeffrey Bassa at pick No. 178 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Cam Skattebo at the 212th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 216th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Garrett Dellinger at pick 222 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
