After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. Bo Nix is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On value alone, Jackson makes the weekend a net positive. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Donovan Edwards at pick 108 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Fair-plus on Kris Abrams-Draine, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Donovan Jackson is a better player than No. 129 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cedric Johnson in slot 148 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 5 slot with a little surplus value in Ainias Smith. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Chau Smith-Wade in the 165th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Josh Proctor at Round 6, Pick 4 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where Zion Tupuola-Fetui graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A quiet steal in Round 7, Pick 10: Steele Chambers for less than the market said. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Aaron Frost at the 242nd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
