They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Jack Westover, 132 picks early at pick No. 189. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
They went early on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 50th overall pick, and the value did not follow. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Javon Bullard at pick No. 53 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ainias Smith in the 97th pick, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Roger Rosengarten at No. 160 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Javion Cohen in pick 170; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
A wild overpay on Jared Wiley in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Javontae Jean-Baptiste well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jack Westover. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kendall Milton at the 240th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
