The Eagles went off the board in a big way for Caedan Wallace, 41 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Bowers at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. With cornerback, wide receiver and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get a moveable chess piece at tight end, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
The board had Javon Bullard higher than pick No. 51, and the safety fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kris Jenkins at the Round 2 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A curious use of the 119th pick. Cornerback, wide receiver and other spots needed the pick; an OLB-EDGE in Javon Solomon did not.
James Williams at Round 4, Pick 20 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tykee Smith in No. 161 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Curtis Jacobs in the 171st pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A real head-scratcher, Caedan Wallace in pick No. 172 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
They went early on Frank Gore Jr. in the 210th overall pick, and the value did not follow. The roster fit checks out.
