The Raiders torched the value chart for Spencer Rattler, taking him 51 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Landing Devonshire that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 27 they get an island corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A premium they did not need to pay, Kingsley Suamataia a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Spencer Rattler at pick No. 66 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ja'Lynn Polk in pick 77 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy little value on Braelon Allen in the 112th pick, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
Steal is underselling it; Zak Zinter at Round 5, Pick 2 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Marist Liufau at the 148th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A big swing on Myles Murphy at Round 6, Pick 33, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
You do not let a cornerback like M.J. Devonshire reach the 229th overall pick and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
