The trade table was where it all came apart. The Eagles shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
Whatever Drake Maye becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Williams at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get the arm they will build around, and a steal at that.
A tidy bit of business in slot 36, where Quinyon Mitchell graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jordan Morgan at the 40th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Nubin at Round 2, Pick 18. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick No. 63 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Adisa Isaac at the 67th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Kris Abrams-Draine in No. 78, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Javon Baker at the Round 3 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Christian Mahogany at the 100th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Malik Washington at pick 120 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in James Williams. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A slide stopped in pick No. 161, with Luke McCaffrey worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Sione Vaki in the 171st pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
Dylan Laube slid further than he should have, and slot 172 is lovely value for the running back. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had Walter Rouse higher than Round 6, Pick 1, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A cornerback of that caliber at No. 188 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Steele Chambers at pick 210 is the proof. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They will replay Evan Williams at the 247th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
