This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Ro Torrence, the No. 177 name on the board, stolen at pick 237.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a potential shutdown corner. Need was not the driver here.
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kris Jenkins in the 56th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A quiet steal in pick 115: Will Shipley for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
Steal is underselling it; Johnny Wilson at the 157th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They robbed the room for Nehemiah Pritchett here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Layden Robinson at pick No. 177 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Caedan Wallace at slot 230 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tatum Bethune at the 232nd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Ro Torrence in slot 237 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
