The Raiders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jeffrey Bassa, the No. 117 name on the board, in Round 6, Pick 37. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
If Dart pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get a premier pass rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They barely believed it either: Nick Emmanwori still on the board at Round 2, Pick 5. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jalen Royals in slot 68 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaxson Dart well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A running back of that caliber at No. 106 is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ricky White III at pick No. 142 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let a running back like Cam Skattebo reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jeffrey Bassa in the 212th pick, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board had Jared Wilson higher than the 216th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jaylen Reed in slot 222 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
