The rest of the league will want that one back. Harold Fannin Jr. tumbling to the Vikings in the 232nd pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
The cost of the Ewers reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
Quinn Ewers is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get the face of the franchise, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Circle this one: Azareye'h Thomas at pick No. 97 is a fall that decides a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jake Majors slipping to Round 4, Pick 14 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A running back of that caliber at slot 138 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Steal is underselling it; Carson Schwesinger at No. 159 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
You do not let a safety like Billy Bowman Jr. reach pick No. 187 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking Harold Fannin Jr. in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
