The Frank Gore Jr. pick is the one that will follow the Eagles into the fall. They took him 53 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
However the rest shakes out, Smith at that price is a win they earned.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 35 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Roman Wilson slid further than he should have, and No. 53 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Christian Mahogany at the 97th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They went early on Ben Sinnott in the 124th overall pick, and the value did not follow. The roster fit checks out.
Tykee Smith slipping to pick 160 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Hunter Nourzad at No. 170 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Frank Gore Jr. in the Round 5 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They talked themselves into Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at the 178th pick, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
