Somebody in the 229th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Raiders sat still while Johnny Dixon, the No. 191 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The Travis pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Marvin Harrison Jr. is a better player than the 13th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Guyton at pick 44. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Chris Braswell at slot 77 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A quiet steal in the 112th pick: Khyree Jackson for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A real head-scratcher, Jordan Travis in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in No. 208, where Jase McClellan graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let a tight end like Erick All reach pick No. 223 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Johnny Dixon in Round 7, Pick 9 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
