Nobody had Austin Reed this high, and it is not close. The Eagles reached 51 spots to get him at pick 223. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while interior defensive lineman went begging.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The Washington value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
Kool-Aid McKinstry at the 35th pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at slot 51, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
A tidy bit of business in pick 53, where Javon Bullard graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kris Jenkins slipping to Round 2, Pick 26 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Sedrick Van Pran in No. 71, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Kiran Amegadjie worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They let Cade Stover come to them and pounced at pick 88. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jaden Hicks in pick No. 98 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Fair-plus on Caelen Carson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Zak Zinter in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went OLB-EDGE with Javon Solomon while clear needs at interior defensive lineman sat open.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jamari Thrash at the 138th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Roger Rosengarten in slot 139 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy little value on Anthony Gould in No. 148, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Dallin Holker went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Isaiah Davis at No. 161 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 169 with a little surplus value in Marist Liufau. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dwight McGlothern in pick 171. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dillon Johnson in the 172nd pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Grayson Murphy at Round 6, Pick 3 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ty'Ron Hopper slid further than he should have, and pick No. 196 is lovely value for the linebacker. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
The board had Trente Jones higher than the Round 6 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; Cornelius Johnson at No. 208 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Tahj Washington was still sitting there in the 210th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
