You can draft well and still miss the point. The Eagles did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to edge rusher, which was the need that mattered most.
That Tracy Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Reaching for Bortolini left real value on the table behind him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
T'Vondre Sweat at the 50th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land T.J. Tampa in Round 2, Pick 21, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took James Williams at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value with a capital V on Tyrone Tracy Jr. in pick 161, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on AJ Barner in No. 171; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Tanor Bortolini at the 172nd overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy little value on Jaylan Ford in slot 210, a step better than break-even. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
