Call it belief, call it a gut call, but DeMonte Capehart at slot 234 is 66 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
They banked enough surplus on Muhammad to cover a lot of smaller sins. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 18 they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
A real head-scratcher, T'Vondre Sweat in the 44th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They talked themselves into Christian Haynes at the Round 2 slot, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Cooper Beebe at par in pick 77, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ray Davis. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tommy Eichenberg in the 115th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Ty'Ron Hopper in pick No. 154 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Jonah Monheim at the 190th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
DeMonte Capehart at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
