The tape said wait; the Eagles did not. Michael Barrett went at the 161st overall pick, a good 90 picks before the board was ready. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. However the rest shakes out, Davis at that price is a win they earned. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 3 of 9 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A big swing on Blake Corum at No. 53, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Max Melton at the 56th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take James Williams this early at pick 120. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Michael Barrett. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Nice patience on Isaiah Davis, who had no business lasting to the Round 5 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Marist Liufau higher than No. 172, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 174, where Jaylin Simpson graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid a round early for Darius Muasau in the 210th overall pick, more than the board wanted. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
