Boards are made to be trusted, and the Cardinals shredded theirs for Ajani Cornelius. He came off 42 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Fuaga falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the Round 1 slot they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in the 36th pick, where Taliese Fuaga graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Trey Benson at pick No. 68 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Sedrick Van Pran in slot 71; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
D.J. James in No. 81 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor itch, scratched.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Roman Wilson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Ajani Cornelius in the 141st pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Curtis Jacobs at pick No. 190 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
