Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals cashed the board's mistake on King: D.

The phones were a trap the Cardinals kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. A D that will need time and luck to look better.

A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want. McCarthy has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Marvin Harrison Jr. · WR · rank 1
In the 2nd overall pick they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.3 · Pick 3 · Malik Nabers · WR · rank 4
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.21 · Pick 21 · Dallas Turner · LB-EDGE · rank 22
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a premier pass rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 45
J.J. McCarthy at pick No. 34 is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 47
Somehow Jeremiah Trotter Jr. was still sitting there in No. 66, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Kalen King · CB · rank 49
Taking Kalen King in pick 70 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Devontez Walker · WR · rank 104
No edge and no loss on Devontez Walker in No. 102; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 129
Tykee Smith slipping to the 139th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · Cody Schrader · RB · rank 181
Cody Schrader in pick 198 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
