The Sam Hartman pick is the one that will follow the Raiders into the fall. They took him 53 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Washington.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Xavier Legette at the 44th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reasonable price with a little left over, T.J. Tampa in slot 54. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Mike Sainristil in No. 77 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They did well to land Michael Hall Jr. in pick No. 85, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good price on Mekhi Wingo in pick 112, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy bit of business in No. 148, where Christian Jones graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They robbed the room for Jarrian Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They went early on Nelson Ceaser in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Layden Robinson in the 177th pick, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A big swing on Sam Hartman at slot 206, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Cornelius Johnson in the 208th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jaylan Ford in pick 223 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Tahj Washington at pick No. 229 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Frank Gore Jr. at No. 243 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
