You build a draft on nights like this. Smael Mondon Jr. had no business being available in No. 141, and the Vikings did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Every board in the league had Pratt lower, and that gap is the story. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
Spending an early pick on defensive back with running back, wide receiver and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A big swing on Michael Pratt at the 52nd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Brandon Dorlus in pick No. 68 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyleik Williams. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose defensive back. Khyree Jackson in Round 4, Pick 20 leaves running back, wide receiver and other spots for later.
Donovan Jackson in No. 132 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Smael Mondon Jr. in slot 141 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A straight-up fair deal on Drake Nugent at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Lathan Ransom at the 166th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
