It is a puzzling start. The Cardinals had quarterback, edge rusher and other spots to solve and reached instead for Kris Abrams-Draine, a cornerback, at the Round 4 slot. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Taylor III pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A reasonable price with a little left over, Marvin Harrison Jr. in No. 6. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
In No. 27 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. More want than need.
Value with a capital V on JC Latham in the 35th overall pick, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Brian Thomas Jr. at the 39th pick is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Ruke Orhorhoro at pick No. 66 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No drama and no debate, Johnny Wilson went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper Beebe at Round 3, Pick 27. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Leonard Taylor III at slot 104 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A curious use of pick 133. Quarterback, edge rusher and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Kris Abrams-Draine did not.
