The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Raiders watched Quincy Riley slide 44 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Caelen Carson deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Every board in the league had Campbell lower, and that gap is the story.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a centerpiece for the ground game, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
In pick No. 21 they get a blindside protector. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jihaad Campbell a notch or two before his time. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A conviction pick on Benjamin Morrison at pick 37 that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Darien Porter in the 68th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Andrew Mukuba in No. 108 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jordan Phillips at the 143rd pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Bhayshul Tuten was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
You do not let a tight end like Oronde Gadsden II reach pick No. 213 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
Taking Quincy Riley in the 215th pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
