The search is over. The Vikings handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Every board in the league had Eichenberg lower, and that gap is the story.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 20 they get a disruptor off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in the 108th pick, where Roger Rosengarten graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tommy Eichenberg in pick 129 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Mason McCormick at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Decamerion Richardson in No. 167 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jase McClellan in the 209th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Julian Pearl in pick No. 230. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Bub Means at the 232nd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let a safety like Evan Williams reach pick No. 254 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
