For all the boxes ticked, the Eagles skipped the loudest one: safety is exactly as bare as it was.
Every board in the league had Smith lower, and that gap is the story. Flournoy falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get a bendy edge with upside, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nothing to complain about; Junior Colson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Christian Haynes slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 1 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No edge and no loss on Max Melton in the 67th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Maason Smith at slot 90 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Isaac Guerendo in pick 142 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
A slide stopped in the 172nd overall pick, with Jaylin Simpson worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nice patience on Ryan Flournoy, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
