You build a draft on nights like this. Xavier Thomas had no business being available in slot 171, and the Eagles did the only sane thing and turned in the card. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Trotter Jr. pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyler Nubin at the 50th overall pick is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at No. 53 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Circle this one: DJ James at pick No. 120 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Caedan Wallace here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Thomas at Round 5, Pick 35 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
AJ Barner at slot 172 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy little value on Nathaniel Watson in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
