Las Vegas Raiders

A solid, sensible weekend for the Raiders: B.

Boards are made to be trusted, and the Raiders shredded theirs for Sam Hartman. He came off 103 spots early, and the room will hear about it.

The Cooper steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · Taliese Fuaga · OT · rank 17
In pick 13 they get a building block for the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 58
A quiet steal in the 74th overall pick: Edgerrin Cooper for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 211
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Sam Hartman well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · DJ James · CB · rank 113
No edge and no loss on DJ James in pick No. 112; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 120
Kris Abrams-Draine slid further than he should have, and Round 4, Pick 30 is lovely value for the cornerback. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.14 · Pick 150 · Justin Rogers · DL · rank 161
Justin Rogers in the Round 5 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.29 · Pick 165 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 164
Joe Milton III in the 165th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 175
Roger Rosengarten in Round 6, Pick 15 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 234
A big swing on Trevor Keegan at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 240
A premium they did not need to pay, Nathaniel Watson a notch or two before his time. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R7.14 · Pick 234 · Chad Lindberg · C · rank 260
Value said wait; Chad Lindberg in pick No. 234 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.28 · Pick 248 · Ja'Had Carter · S · rank 252
They took Ja'Had Carter at par in No. 248, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
