After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. Bo Nix is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will answer for taking cornerback early while wide receiver and tight end went begging.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Wiggins. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 16 they get a passer to set the clock by. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Nate Wiggins in the 42nd overall pick, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Braden Fiske at No. 78 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A conviction pick on Darius Robinson at the Round 4 slot that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Jarrian Jones in pick No. 130 leaves wide receiver and tight end for later.
Malik Mustapha at Round 5, Pick 12 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on LaDarius Henderson in pick 152; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Chau Smith-Wade at par in the 160th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They did well to land Layden Robinson in the 169th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Isaiah Davis went about where he belonged in slot 179. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, JD Bertrand at pick No. 190 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Mark Perry in the 230th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Matthew Jones. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
