The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Vikings watched Beau Brade slide 30 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Davis has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Jer'Zhan Newton in Round 1, Pick 11 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Fair-plus on Kris Jenkins, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Roman Wilson at the 87th pick, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Good price on Tykee Smith in pick No. 108, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Khyree Jackson at the Round 4 slot is the proof. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board fumbled Beau Brade all the way to No. 148, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nehemiah Pritchett at the 154th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Isaiah Davis at slot 160 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ty'Ron Hopper is a better player than pick 165 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
Taking Moose Muhammad III in Round 6, Pick 4 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Justin Walley in Round 6, Pick 19; it is a wash and a sensible one. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jordan Magee at pick 230. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
