Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Isaiah Davis at pick No. 126 is 66 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. That Muhammad III pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback, safety and other spots went begging.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 31 they get juice off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Chop Robinson at Round 2, Pick 3, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nothing to complain about; Adisa Isaac went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, D.J. James at the 78th overall pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Mike Sainristil while clear needs at quarterback, safety and other spots sat open.
They jumped the gun on Will Shipley, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 108 with a little surplus value in Blake Fisher. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A real head-scratcher, Isaiah Davis in pick 126 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Justin Eboigbe went about where he belonged in pick No. 130. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Javion Cohen at par in Round 5, Pick 12, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
LaDarius Henderson in the 160th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor itch, scratched.
They will replay Moose Muhammad III at No. 179 for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
A slide stopped in the 209th overall pick, with Justin Walley worth more than the price. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A reasonable price with a little left over, JD Bertrand in the 215th pick. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Somehow Jonah Monheim was still sitting there in the 230th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
