Somebody took the Texans to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 23 they get a potential shutdown corner. More want than need.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 58 with a little surplus value in Ja'Tavion Sanders. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, T'Vondre Sweat went about where he belonged in the 60th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Malik Washington at the 123rd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, James Williams at pick 126 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They took Grayson Murphy at par in Round 5, Pick 27, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Donovan Jennings in pick No. 239, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Dwight McGlothern in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
