The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Xavier Restrepo, the 216th pick, roughly 167 picks past where he belonged.
The cost of the Skattebo reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 8 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Cam Ward in the 39th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Wyatt Milum still on the board at Round 3, Pick 5. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board fumbled Jalon Walker all the way to No. 70, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
T.J. Sanders in the 106th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cam Skattebo in slot 146 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Josaiah Stewart in pick No. 183 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dylan Fairchild at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Xavier Restrepo at Round 6, Pick 41 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Circle this one: Alfred Collins at slot 223 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
