Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Raiders were there to profit. T.J. Sanders, the No. 27 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 223rd overall pick.
The cost of the Skattebo reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 8th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Circle this one: Cam Ward at Round 2, Pick 7 is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 69th pick is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached into another round for Cam Skattebo, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled Jalon Walker all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jahdae Barron at No. 146 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jihaad Campbell in pick 183 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Steal is underselling it; Dylan Fairchild at slot 212 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Josaiah Stewart at pick No. 216 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking T.J. Sanders in pick 223 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
