Thirty-one other rooms let Justin Walley slide, and the Vikings were the ones holding the card at Round 7, Pick 10. Highway robbery. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They are betting Laube proves the room right and everyone else wrong. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a potential shutdown corner. Need was not the driver here.
J.J. McCarthy at pick No. 42 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kiran Amegadjie at pick 62 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Davis in slot 93, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nothing to complain about; Tykee Smith went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dylan Laube at No. 130 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
They paid up for Keith Randolph Jr. at the Round 5 slot when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Layden Robinson at the 165th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A quiet steal in the Round 6 slot: Chau Smith-Wade for less than the market said. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They did well to land Roger Rosengarten in No. 191, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Justin Walley in the 230th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
