If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Vikings, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Thrash. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Every board in the league had Brooks lower, and that gap is the story.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 20 they get a go-to option on the outside. A real need, handled.
In pick No. 31 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jordan Morgan in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tahj Brooks. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A quiet steal in the 157th pick: Jack Nelson for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jamari Thrash at the 161st overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
Value with a capital V on Lathan Ransom in Round 5, Pick 32, a genuine coup. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kamal Hadden at the 179th pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A conviction pick on Michael Trigg at the Round 7 slot that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
