There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Eagles started one anyway for Jaylan Ford, 34 picks ahead of schedule.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. On value alone, Wilson makes the weekend a net positive.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the 35th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Edgerrin Cooper at the 50th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They barely believed it either: Roman Wilson still on the board at pick 90. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Zak Zinter at par in slot 104, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No edge and no loss on Theo Johnson in Round 4, Pick 20; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Josh Newton at No. 161 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached a country mile for Jaylan Ford at pick 171, and the board is aghast. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Kendall Milton is a better player than the 210th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
