You can hear the double-takes from here. The Vikings took Zion Logue at the 172nd overall pick, roughly 69 spots before his name belonged. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
On value alone, Hardy makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Good work on the whole, with offensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at slot 58 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They took Kamal Hadden at par in Round 4, Pick 30, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board had cheaper options than Edefuan Ulofoshio at the Round 5 slot, and it noticed. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They jumped the gun on Justin Rogers, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
A real head-scratcher, Taulia Tagovailoa in No. 156 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Kitan Oladapo in pick 160, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach on Michael Barrett in No. 165; the board had better options right there. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Zion Logue at slot 172 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good price on Curtis Jacobs in Round 6, Pick 4, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Daequan Hardy at pick No. 230 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A wild overpay on DeMonte Capehart in the 247th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
