They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Raiders' quarterback, full stop. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jones. They will need McCarthy to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
If J.J. McCarthy and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get their quarterback of the future, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Jenkins at the 44th pick, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Junior Colson went about where he belonged in slot 77. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid sticker price for Dillon Johnson in pick No. 112, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had cheaper options than LaDarius Henderson at pick 150, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jaylen Harrell at No. 190 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Myles Jones in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
