Call it larceny. Moose Muhammad III sat on the board until slot 179, and the Vikings did not need to be asked twice.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Fair-plus on Quinyon Mitchell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Spencer Rattler at Round 4, Pick 8 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Justin Eboigbe went about where he belonged in the 130th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Jaylin Simpson in pick 148, and that is fine. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Sincere Haynesworth at slot 160 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Cedric Johnson at the 165th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let a wide receiver like Moose Muhammad III reach pick No. 179 and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for JD Bertrand here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
