The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Michael Penix Jr., and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The James value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Olumuyiwa Fashanu at the 44th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Christian Haynes at the Round 3 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Renardo Green in Round 4, Pick 12 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Taking DJ James in slot 148 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
