The phones were a trap the Eagles kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. They will need Johnson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 25 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, Edgerrin Cooper went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 18. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Khyree Jackson in pick 91 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Theo Johnson at the 120th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Johnny Wilson at slot 121 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value with a capital V on Tykee Smith in the 171st pick, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A premium they did not need to pay, Cedric Johnson a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
