The trade table was where it all came apart. The Eagles shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. It nets out a thoroughly average C.
Landing Johnson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Spending an early pick on linebacker with interior defensive lineman, offensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get a disruptor off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In slot 25 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Edgerrin Cooper in the 50th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A want over a need in Round 4, Pick 20: Cedric Gray adds a linebacker while interior defensive lineman, offensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Tykee Smith at pick No. 161 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kamal Hadden in the Round 5 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 36 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cornelius Johnson at pick 210 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
