You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Eagles did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.
They will need Rosemy-Jacksaint to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Braswell falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.27
· Pick 27
· Cooper DeJean
· CB
· rank 27
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper DeJean. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R1.32
· Pick 32
· Graham Barton
· OT
· rank 26
In No. 32 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value.
R2.21
· Pick 53
· Chris Braswell
· LB-EDGE
· rank 44
A slide stopped in the Round 2 slot, with Chris Braswell worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.2
· Pick 66
· Payton Wilson
· LB
· rank 57
Payton Wilson slipping to the 66th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.10
· Pick 74
· Devontez Walker
· WR
· rank 70
Devontez Walker at pick 74 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.15
· Pick 79
· Max Melton
· CB
· rank 77
By-the-book stuff, Max Melton at pick No. 79 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.25
· Pick 88
· Jaden Hicks
· S
· rank 85
Nothing to complain about; Jaden Hicks went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.37
· Pick 100
· Braelon Allen
· RB
· rank 106
Braelon Allen at slot 100 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.16
· Pick 116
· Johnny Wilson
· WR
· rank 125
They went early on Johnny Wilson in pick 116, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.25
· Pick 161
· Tykee Smith
· S
· rank 160
No drama and no debate, Tykee Smith went about where he belonged in the 161st pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.1
· Pick 176
· Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
· WR
· rank 196
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at slot 176 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.21
· Pick 196
· Logan Lee
· DL
· rank 212
Logan Lee in the Round 6 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.38
· Pick 213
· Cedric Johnson
· DE-EDGE
· rank 226
A premium they did not need to pay, Cedric Johnson a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
