The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They are betting McCarthy proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Milton III at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 17 they get the arm they will build around, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Chris Braswell in Round 2, Pick 10 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Denzel Burke in the 48th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No edge and no loss on Zak Zinter in No. 96; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Braelon Allen in the Round 4 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Cedric Gray at pick 130 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board had Nelson Ceaser higher than the 148th pick, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Darius Robinson in pick No. 160 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They read the board right and Joe Milton III was the payoff at No. 165. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kaden Prather at slot 179 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Maurice Smith this early at Round 6, Pick 36. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Miles Frazier at the 230th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Brevyn Spann-Ford in pick No. 237 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
