Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Gabriel Murphy got past him. The Eagles do not have to explain a thing at Round 5, Pick 24. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a bendy edge with upside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
T.J. Tampa at Round 2, Pick 18 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Worthy in pick No. 53; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
DJ James in the 97th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking Gabriel Murphy in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dylan Laube at the 170th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in slot 171, where Kitan Oladapo graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jarrian Jones in No. 210 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
