The tape said wait; the Eagles did not. Taulia Tagovailoa went at the 240th overall pick, a good 36 picks before the board was ready.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chop Robinson. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Payton Wilson at the 50th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A big swing on Cooper Beebe at pick No. 53, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Bralen Trice at slot 59 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Malik Washington at No. 97 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A real head-scratcher, Mason McCormick in the Round 4 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Hunter Nourzad well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A slide stopped in Round 5, Pick 35, with Grayson Murphy worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Frank Gore Jr. in the 189th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
