Philadelphia Eagles

A costly weekend of dealing drags the Eagles to a D+.

The Eagles lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They are betting Johnson proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

They went 7 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.17 · Pick 17 · Terrion Arnold · CB · rank 18
In pick 17 they get a ballhawk on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 57
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Payton Wilson. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Malachi Corley · WR · rank 60
No drama and no debate, Malachi Corley went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Matt Goncalves · OT · rank 114
Good price on Matt Goncalves in pick No. 120, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.25 · Pick 161 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 154
Fair-plus on Kitan Oladapo, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
R5.35 · Pick 171 · Dillon Johnson · RB · rank 167
A clean, defensible pick in the 171st pick with a little surplus value in Dillon Johnson. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · AJ Barner · TE · rank 171
By-the-book stuff, AJ Barner at No. 172 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.35 · Pick 210 · Cedric Johnson · DE-EDGE · rank 227
Cedric Johnson at the 210th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
