Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Eagles were there to profit. Jacob Cowing, the No. 147 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 210. It lands right in the middle: a C-, no more, no less.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Trotter Jr. pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Reaching for Johnson left real value on the table behind him.
If Quinyon Mitchell and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a lockdown presence outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Edgerrin Cooper in No. 50 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Worthy at Round 2, Pick 21, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A curious use of the 62nd overall pick. Edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; a linebacker in Jeremiah Trotter Jr. did not.
A reach for Theo Johnson in the Round 4 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Cade Stover at pick No. 120 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 161st pick is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kitan Oladapo at pick 171 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Jacob Cowing still on the board at the 210th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
