The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
They will need Jones to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 23rd pick they get their quarterback of the future. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Mekhi Wingo in Round 4, Pick 8; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Johnny Wilson in No. 129 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trente Jones in pick 157, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A premium they did not need to pay, Ty'Ron Hopper a notch or two before his time. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Curtis Jacobs in slot 177 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They took Nathan Thomas at par in pick No. 230, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, LaDarius Henderson well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
