Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Raiders were there to profit. Ro Torrence, the No. 177 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 208th pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 13 they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A quiet steal in the 44th overall pick: Brian Thomas Jr. for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Xavier Worthy still on the board at Round 3, Pick 13. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Calen Bullock at pick No. 112 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
James Williams at the 148th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Taking Ro Torrence in No. 208 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A slide stopped in slot 223, with Jaylen Harrell worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Circle this one: Curtis Jacobs at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
