The one they had to fix is still broken. The Vikings left safety untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Pritchett. Ford has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The dealing was even money, start to finish.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an island corner. More want than need.
No drama and no debate, J.J. McCarthy went about where he belonged in No. 48. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in the 112th pick with a little surplus value in Bucky Irving. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Matt Goncalves at pick 116, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Donovan Jackson in Round 4, Pick 27 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value said wait; Jaylan Ford in slot 149 says they were not listening. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Nehemiah Pritchett at the 162nd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
By-the-book stuff, Nelson Ceaser at pick No. 165 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Moose Muhammad III in pick 179 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They let Marques Cox come to them and pounced at slot 233. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
