Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Raiders were there to profit. Danny Stutsman, the No. 86 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 178th overall pick.
They are betting Dart proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Tyler Booker in pick No. 37; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Jihaad Campbell at Round 3, Pick 4 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jaxson Dart in the 73rd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Devin Neal in No. 106 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Cam Skattebo at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board fumbled Danny Stutsman all the way to the 178th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They talked themselves into Will Lee III at pick 212, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value said wait; PJ Williams in the 216th pick says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Thor Griffith at No. 222 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
